Oli East

hello@olieast.com
I am a multidisciplinary graphic designer from London. I always strive to begin with a idea-first mentality. Parallel to this is my interest in honest, close relationships. These goals are at the core of my practice, both in the aim to produce meaningful work that is rich in purpose, thinking, transparency and collaborative synergy.

So far my work has been within and around music, art, fashion and advertising - with a focus in typography, editorial and digital and print design. More recently - inspired by authors such as Mark Fisher and Marc Augé - I have began to formulate a heavily research-based side practice, investigating the intersection of sociology, culture, design and technology. I spent 2018 out working internships - with de_form in Budapest, and Grey London and Droga5 in London.

METROPOLIS 2020

Metropolis is a annual festival held in London. The festival hosts a series of lectures, discussions and live performance. The festival aims to bring individuals together from a range of various practices and encourage original thinking within a cultural space, addressing the shifting landscape of our future as a result of the democratization of technology.

WILL GRAPHIC DESIGN RUIN MY LIFE?

An investigation into the political, cultural, and social effects of working as a graphic designer. The exploration is divided up into selected discussion areas, which aim to analyse three main areas of within the graphic designers career: becoming, working and growing. The inspiration to investigate this topic was influenced mostly by my own experiences, and so the discussion is often initially raised with auto-ethnographic reflection to aid the exploration into wider political, cultural and social meanings and understandings.
